RC Lens logo history — blood and gold
Racing Club de Lens comes from the old coal-mining country of northern France. The club's red and yellow, "Sang et Or", are among the best-known colours in French football.
Racing Club de Lens was founded in 1906 in Lens, in the Pas-de-Calais mining basin.
Lens won their only French league title in 1997/98. The same season they reached the Coupe de France final but lost.
Lens beat Nice 3–1 at the Stade de France to win the Coupe de France for the first time. They had lost three previous finals.
What does the RC Lens logo mean?
The crest uses the club's red and gold. Supporters say the colours stand for the blood and the gold of the mining region: the hard work and sacrifice of the miners, and the coal they dug. That is why the kits carry slogans like "SANG ET OR" and "Mentalité Charbonneur".
RC Lens kit history — Puma to adidas
Lens traditionally wear red and yellow at home. In 2026/27, adidas took over from Puma after five seasons. The new collection draws on the club's mining heritage: the "Sang et Or" home shirt, the terril-patterned black and green away shirt, and a white sashed third shirt that echoes the club's 2022/23 third kit.
