AJ Auxerre logo history — the Maltese cross
Auxerre is a small town in Burgundy, but its club became one of France's great success stories under one of football's longest-serving coaches.
The Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise was founded in 1905. The year appears on both the home and away shirts this season.
Coach Guy Roux led Auxerre for around four decades and took the club from the amateur leagues to the top of French football.
Auxerre won the French title and the Coupe de France in the same season, the greatest achievement in the club's history. The 2026/27 home shirt marks its 30th anniversary.
Will Still was appointed head coach on 12 June 2026, replacing Christophe Pélissier, on a contract until 2028.
What does the AJ Auxerre logo mean?
The crest uses Auxerre's blue and white and features the Maltese cross, a symbol that also appears on this season's shirts. Fans call the club "L'AJA", from its initials, Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise.
